The small tropical Goa on the southwest coast of India was a must-see for the hippie trails in the 1960s and is famous for its wild full moon beach parties. Although Goa has far more hippies than beaches, it is a reputation that the state has never been able to shake off. But the truth is, Goa has many wonderful and unconventional places worth visiting! I spent several weeks touring the state, looking for the sights and experiences of Goa, to show the more interesting, complex and demanding side of Goa. I found that Goa is a treasure of history, culture, health and leisure.
First, due to the Portuguese colonization, Goa has a completely unique flavour in India. In fact, the Portuguese have influenced the culture of Goa for hundreds of years, so the state has a large number of Catholics and a large number of Portuguese-designed churches and elegant old houses. I like these charming houses, painted in bright colours, and dream of one day having a house with a large white terrace on a hill overlooking the Arabian Sea. Goa is also a cultural centre, where writers and artists from all over live or spend the winter there. There is a clear sense of multiculturalism and the feeling of being at a crossroads in the world.

So here are some highlights of the alternative attractions during my trip to Goa. Hope they can let you know all the things you can see and do in Goa that don’t require you to walk on the beach. Although if you wish, you can still do it on the beaches of Calangute, Baga, Anjuna and Hippy Base Camp Arambol. (However, the old night full moon carnival has been banned.
